Mario, like all of us, had a wonderful dream.
His dream was to become a ‘great lawyer’, just like his beloved father Carlo and grandfather Mario are.
To realise dreams requires courage and determination, and Mario had plenty of that. At 19, he left his hometown to move to Milan and attend the prestigious Bocconi University Law School, fertile ground for shaping the ambitions of a curious and lively mind like his. During his studies, Mario showed commitment, tenacity and more: we friends also appreciated him for his generosity and spontaneous cheerfulness.
But realising dreams requires more than courage and determination. You need time... the time of life and this, unfortunately, Mario did not have.
After graduating, during his legal practice, a cruel and rare oncological disease took him away in a single year, at the age of just twenty-seven.
His extraordinary inner strength sustained him even in the hardest days and so Mario, in the time of his illness, continued to study, work and cultivate his interests, teaching us a lesson that we friends will never forget and will guide our future lives:
‘when you have a dream you have to fight to achieve it, no matter what happens’.
That is why we think today that, even if his life was cut short, his dream can live on.
The decision to support a tuition fee waiver in his honour is therefore a dutiful act towards his memory, so that it can inspire and concretely support young people who, like him, have a dream, enabling them to achieve it.
Only in this way will Mario's dream not be lost, turning into an opportunity for other young people to study, grow and build a better future for themselves.
This is what he would have wanted and we will strive to make it come true.
Help us to keep Mario's dream alive. Donate today and become part of this mission.
A heartfelt thank you from Mario's friends.
